new Pac Man frog, possible redleg?

SlickAle Aug 06, 2003 12:19 AM

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum. I'm desperate, I think my new Pac Man Frog as red leg. I put five crickets in with him, and he either ate them or they escapeed out of a 10 gallon tank, which I think is unlikely. I have the temp at about 75-80* with a 25 watt light blub, and some Reptile soil I got at the petstore. It smells like chemicals... I don't know if it's safe, but it says amphibian safe. The little guy has what looks like a bloated lower body with pinkish coloration. But he is a pacman. I brought it back to PetCo and their reptile guy said he's just a little pink because of his white underbelly. I got him yesterday night. PetCo says they have been feeding them a pinkie a week and 3 crickets every 2 days dusted with calcium. Please help me.

She has irregular breathing also. I think I'm just being paranoid, and the frog only looks a little bloated near the end of its stomach. I think I'm being paranoid. The PetCo I bought him from is very well run with great service, and the employees seem to know a lot about their pets. But they did feed a pinkie a week. That seems a little overboard, since my frog is only 1.5 to 2 inches long.

I'm no expert on this, but are there any problems with the frog? I sounded like it was eating and I thats good. I don't really know what happens when a frog has got Redleg, but I think that it has a lack of appetite.
Oh, BTW don't feed the frog pikies, then it can become obese, and go blind etc. I think it may also lead to a premature death. A steady diet of insects(invertabrates, I think...) is the best thing.

But as I said I'm no expert, just w8 for a few more replies, beceause I'mnot sure my info is correct.
I haven't bought my first Pacman yet, but I've been reading up on them pretty good.

Good Luck!

It all depends on where the pinkish coloration is, because they can be a light pink on the underside of their legs, but it if is anywhere else on teh frog of is red then it is red leg. See if you can get a picture of him, from the top and from the bottom. And don't listen to Petco, they told someone that when his frog fell 2" that that was what killed it, when in reality they can jump about 2" high and would kill themselves if that were true. My albino horned frog.

The coloration is just on the thigh area. I'm pretty sure he's doing ok, probably just shy. I was reading some of the old threads on pac man frogs, and some people say they have shy pets. I think I have one of them

That was me. Like he said, dont listen to PETCO. I have not had much luck at all with PETCO's smaller pacman frogs (the size you have purchased.)I have taken back two frogs that have died in less than a few days of buying them. I finally found about a 3" pacman at another petco and he is doing great. There smaller ones just dont seem to do good at all. The PetCo guy tried telling me that my first frog died from a 2" fall which is pretty much impossible. All I can tell you is if you dont think it is healthy, take it back. They will try to prolong your decision until after the the 15 day mark and then it will be too late.
