This guy has been hanging around our house in central Virginia, and we've got a couple small dogs, so I wanted to make sure it wasn't a copperhead. Its a baby right now...maybe 6" long? Hard to get a pic of him, but this is one of his top/side. Any guesses?

Thanks!

Although being able to see its face and head would help, I'm pretty sure this is an Eastern Hognose snake. It is DEFINATELY not a Copperhead-wrong color, wrong pattern, wrong scale type.

Looks to be an Eastern Hognose. Definitely not a Copperhead.I'm including a link to help ID snakes in your area.

You guys are right on! Thanks for the link...one of those patterns looks identical to the one in our yard. Its good to see that its not considered venomous...I guess I won't have to chase it out of the yard.

Thanks again
