Regurgitation in a yearling?

loloboa Oct 04, 2006 09:58 PM

Hello!

I have a sunglow yearling corn, and she has regurgitated her pinky twice.

I bought some F/T pinkies from a new supplier, (Houston Herpetological supply) and I've fed them twice on these pinks. The snakes are getting pretty big, but not quite big enough to move to fuzzies...so i just give them two a piece. the other two were fine with the transition, but Bowie didn't take to it very well it seems. She ate 2 pinks in one meal ONCE, and since then, she has regurgitated one pink out of 2 each time i fed her.

temp should be fine: 80 hot end, 70 cold end.

A: is it possible that there is something in the smell or on these new pinks that she doesn't want?

B: could she still need to have only one pink per meal?

C: given that they are all yearlings and have had no contact with new snakes, it is possible that she may have contracted some kind of nasty bug?

Any advice would be most welcome!

I am by no means an expert, and this isn't really addressing the regurtitating problem, but I think that a yearling should be on at least fuzzies. The way I was told was they can't grow much beyond a point if they're only fed on pinkies, they need slightly larger food to make them wider. It seems a bit backwards but like I said, I'm definately not an expert.

Also, how long did you leave it between feeds after regurgitating? It's quite stressful for them so I would always leave it about a week before trying to feed again.

I would try and get other opinions as I'm not to be trusted lol, I'm a newbie 2 years therefore I'm just repeating things that were said to me but hope this helps a bit.

Yes, indeed...How long between the two regurges? One regurge can happen for many possible reasons. But if food is given before the snake's system has a chance to rebound (and people often seem to think they better get some food in them right away...BAD IDEA!), the chances of another regurge are high.

So...Wait at least 8 days (some suggest 2 weeks) before feeding. Offer ONE food item, on the VERY small side. In other words, UNDERFEED the next few times in terms of size. Leave the snake alone. Just plain don't do anything to stress it out until it gets a few more good meals down. Take it slow. 2 regurges and you could have some trouble. Another one or two and you could be on the road to steady decline. Good luck. Duffy

Can you please post a picture of the snake for me? That would clear something up. If it was one one before and it is regurging with two....then just give it one.

True yearlings should be way past pinkies by now. Mine are just finishing up on fuzzies (3 a week). But this is mostly me just trying to get rid of the rest of the fuzzies I bought. They have been big enough for hopppers for a month or so.

Internal parasites can restrict growth, and as they get worse can lead to regurgitation. I would not wait. Find a vet and let them know that you need this done so that you can take in the next bowel movement.

Here's one of my yearlings. Pic was taken just over 2 months ago.
