You might have better luck posting this question in the turtle forum. I don't recommend double-posting but I've seen a lot of caging threads in the forum under the particular species.
Good luck!

It is said that 1 out of every 4 people are mentally unbalanced. Think of your 3 closest friends, if they're normal, then it's you.
I agree you should get the turtle guy's advice however in this forum often double posting can be helpful for example. I know nothing of turtles but I do know that Large tubs like those from vision or even large concrete mixing tubs like the 45gal tub from the Argee Corp. Can be used for a variety of large terrestrial animals. I know of a few people by word of mouth that actually use these large tubs for wintering turtles inside.
Turtles tend to tay in tubs because they don't jump or climb. Lighting can be fixed above the tubs but they depend alot on the species. Where turtle guy's come in handy.
So to answer your question Yes tubs can work but it depends on what you want out of them that is the question.
Good Luck

If you're going to keep your boxie inside I would reccomend a water trough/stock tank a 4'x2'x2' would be the minimum I'd think but the 6'x2'x2' would be great. I first started using these for my ackie monitors but I'm hooked on them for others. Boxies love to burrow and need high humidity so these would be great. for a cover a piece of lexan or plexi cut into two pieces and hinged together. You can install a ceramic light fixture right to the lexan. drill a few vent holes in it and your good to go. Also these are deep enough to provide plenty of soil for digging, which will help keep your boxie hydrated and fit from the exercise. Crickets grasshoppers and other food items can't escape from these either. Good luck with your cage design.
