Worried About Crested Egg

tammy Oct 05, 2006 09:52 AM

Hi All,

Had my first clutch of eggs laid on August 12th. Have them incubating in a small deli cup with vermiculite and plenty of humidity. They have been doing fine and have grown significantly. This morning I checked them and one of the eggs is leaking...clear stringy, just like egg white from a chicken egg...egg does not look cracked but there is some discoloration in about a 3mm area and it is leaking from there...like maybe a thin spot. Anyone have this happen and have a successful hatch? Anything I can do? incubation temps are between 72-78...I have them at work so temps are pretty stable and never hot, always on the cooler side. So I am thinking it is way too early for them to hatch

Thanks.
Tammy

Hi Tammy,
What were the results of hatching your eggs. I've had this happen with pictus eggs and it's not a good think. Hope your's worked out better than mine.

Hi,

Thanks for asking...that egg actually hatched out over that weekend after the leaking had started....baby is doing fine. Second egg from that clutch never hatched and molded 2 weeks later. Now I am waiting on the next clutch to hatch. And thankfully after the last eggs were laid (an hour after she laid them) I pulled her from the males cage and she has been apart from him since but is now showing signs of calcium deficency. I hope she will be ok...she was of the right size, fed baby food and CGD and occasionally dusted crickets...three clutches and she might be crashing. Giving her bone-aid.

Tammy,
Good to hear that at least one of the eggs hatched out.
Why do you think there may be a calcium deficiency? Are you checking the inside of her mouth?
If you are feeding T-Rex CGD you should have no problem. The baby food is not the best thing for them.

Hi,

She is a biter so no have not checked her mouth....I know because of the symptoms...she is shaky and not able to climb the glass and is very weak. This happened over a period of a week when I noticed she was not eating much. They will NOT eat straight CGD....only mixed with baby food and I add Bone-aid drops so she should have been getting enough calcium.

T-Rex just came out with flavored diet so she may go for banana or mango or one of the others.
Good luck with your sick gecko. What is your plan with her?

Hi,

Hmmmm, flavored CGD??? Is that what you mean....I will have to look. I have tried banana baby food on them and they hate it. They prefer tropical fruit so maybe the mango would go over well.

I am hand feeding her bone aid and water multiple times per day....she is a my work. She has not eaten since Monday so I may start force feeding her if she does not eat tomorrow.
