Worried About Crested Egg

tammy Oct 05, 2006 09:53 AM

Hi All,

Had my first clutch of eggs laid on August 12th. Have them incubating in a small deli cup with vermiculite and plenty of humidity. They have been doing fine and have grown significantly. This morning I checked them and one of the eggs is leaking...clear stringy, just like egg white from a chicken egg...egg does not look cracked but there is some discoloration in about a 3mm area and it is leaking from there...like maybe a thin spot. Anyone have this happen and have a successful hatch? Anything I can do? incubation temps are between 72-78...I have them at work so temps are pretty stable and never hot, always on the cooler side. So I am thinking it is way too early for them to hatch

Thanks.
Tammy

Could be a few things. It could be getting ready to hatch, it has been about 55 days since it was laid. Or there may be too much humidity in the incubation container. Leave the lid open for awhile to allow moisture to evaporate then close it up again. Watch carefully. I had eggs leak that 'egg white' ooze before and they did hatch about a week later. Others did that and never hatched, so hard to say. Only thing you can do is wait it out.

Very happy to report back that over the weekend the little gecko decided to hatch and is stunning. My first baby gecko....what a shock to come into work this morning to this little guy in the egg cup. Great way to start my week.

Congrats. Having that first egg hatch is always exciting. I certainly was excited to find my first crested gecko come out of the egg.

There is a highly technical term for the reaction you have when seeing your first baby gecko has hatched.

Its known as ''the gecko dance''eyes get wide mouth pops open and your body does a little involuntary happy shuffle.

Casual observers may call 911 fearing you just had a seizure.
