Breeding Dumerils and Argentine Boas

bugman72 Oct 05, 2006 03:08 PM

I've got a lovely pair of adults of both of these species. My argentinian dropped a load of slugs last year but both males have been mating on a regular basis earlier in the year. But as yet nothing, no young. I have had these animals for several years. My Reptile room is small and gets quite hot with the combined heat of all the vivariums (approx 28 degrees C is the ambient temperature)is it too hot? has anyone bred these before? do I need to chill the animals before? If so what sorts of temperature regimes do I need to follow. Thanks in advance NB

the room isn't too hot, but heating the cages might make them too hot. Some folks cycle (cool) their boas and some don't. You can just drop the temps by cutting off the cage heat if you want. It really doesn't matter how you achieve the right temps just that you do. You can also decrease the number of hours of daylight to help cycle them too.

Here's some stuff to read:

Good luck, and I do suggest you cycle them.
