What's the history of amel. Lampropeltis getula getula? Are they pure or did someone integrade them with a common kingsnake?
Or is everything pure? I can't remember.
Jeff
It depends upon what your definition is.
But I'm curious to.
Was it borrowed from another subspecies, or was a wild albino found (or popped out of a clutch)?

I have heard different stories as well....
I believe the "original" was found in TN (which by the way protects it's herps--did they have a permit?)and it could be said that particular snake may have been from a known intergrade zone w/nigra I believe..
So, while there may be no doubt the animal was albino or had the genes for albino, it may also have been an intergrade itself.
All just guesses from my point. I think some breeders decided to sell off theirs when they couldn't pin down the particulars you're wondering about.
I'd like a better understanding myself.

Personally I don't think they are pure because of the way they look and act. I was very interested in these when they first came out and wanted to buy some. After I held one in person I was immediatly turned off by the shape of the body and seeming weekness this amel had compared to an eastern king hatchling.
I would like to see more outcrossing back into some nice easterns and then I would definetly be interested.

Wow, I felt the same way. After holding a few, and feeling the strength these kings processed, I felt there was no way these were pure. Just something in my gut was telling me not to buy them.
Someone should buy one.
Cross it with a normal to make hets.
Breed the normals to normals to make 50% hets.
Several pairs of 50% hets should prove out (and if none do, switch the pairing the next season). I'm guessing such a baby would then "feel" a lot more eastern.
