True mexmex or Hybrid

boeh Oct 06, 2006 03:08 AM

Hi there

Since my last questions about the greeri / mexmex problem I had a lot of people who asked me about the subspecies of their snake. In switzerland, we've got a lot of mexmex's that are declared as greeri.

Here's one that i can't really assign. I would say it's a mix between greeri and mexicana. But probably it's a special form of mexicana? What would you say?

I could only get the first photo to load, but I would say that it's possible that it is pure mex-mex. Since the exportation of mexicana from Mexico became illegal in the early 1980's, there has been quite a bit of crossing the various subspecies. It is practically impossible to tell sometimes if you have a mix or a pure sub. I believe the problem is even greater in Europe. Whatever that snake is, pure or not, it's a looker! I wouldn't be surprised if it were pure mex-mex or if it was crossed with greeri. At the end of the day it's impossible to know for sure.

As one who has seen mex mex in nature, that individual appears to be very normal and shows no signs(over the internet) of being a cross with anything muchless greeri. Good luck

I would have to say also that i think it is MexMex, the only thing that makes me think otherwise in the markings on the head, but either way i am still leaning towards mexmex, and a very nice one at that.
