johnavilla Oct 06, 2006 09:38 AM

Do those of you who use maternal incubation feed your girls while they are incubating?

I wouldn't recommend it - there is a good chance that Mom wouldn't go back to her eggs or that she uses too much energy digesting her meal and doesn't have what it takes to properly maintain her eggs.

That being said - I did have one that fed towards the end of her incubation period - I had her out of her tub while I was candling her eggs and thought Id offer her a meal - she fed and when I put her back in her tub she returned to her eggs. I think she was around day 50ish - I don't beleive that she would have fed if still in her tub and I was really taking a bigger chance than I should have that she would return to her eggs - I had two abandonded clutches this season most likely due to too much messing around in their tubs - they really need to just be left alone to do their thing.
