female just not getting it....???

ta2smitty Oct 06, 2006 01:55 PM

I have a gravid female thats ready to drop her eggs. for the past two days shes dug a nice deep tunnel and has abandons them both? This is her first clutch so maybe shes just not getting it? Shes in a super quite spot of the house no traffic no othing. Shes in a big laying box that has worked for me in the past. She's about to pop if she gets much bigger. I've been takeing her out at night to let her relax, get water and food. How many of you folks leave your female in the laying box until she lays them? Overnight?

Leave her as long as nessescary. Soemtimes I don't "see" mine for days and days. I watch them on webcam on my computer.

Webcam now thats a great idea, just have to have some $$$. I may have to steal that idea one day. she had bad luck today. Her tunnel fall on her thank god I found her in time to dig her out before she died. I rewet the sand for tomorrow so that shouldn't happen again. scared me big time but she was o.k. I feel bad cause she's having one hell of a time for her first time.

Do you let her see you when she's digging the hole? That usually causes a chameleon to abandon the hole feeling that its not safe. Some females dig more than one hole even when they don't see you...they are looking for a suitable place. They can also dig for more than one day in the same hole. As Will said....just let her dig.

When she has laid the eggs...I would let her finish burying them before you dig them up.

Good luck!

attempt number 3 worked! 35 good eggs! nice small clutch I was worried it was going to be in the 50's or higher. Everything is back to normal already zappin bugs and drinking water.

I'm just happy that I still have the breeders touch. I was getting worry, I've yet to have a egg bound female and the thought is aways in the back of my mind...
