Black Roughneck Monitors

j3nnay Oct 06, 2006 02:20 PM

Hi all,

I've been trying to do some research on Black Roughneck Monitors, because I think I'd like to get one sometime in the future. Saw one at my local reptile store and fell in love with it, but before I decide I'd actually want to get one, I want to know more about it.

Problem is, I'm not even sure the animal I saw WAS a black roughneck monitor (the few pictures I've found don't look like him), and I am having major problems finding information about them. I'll try and get a picture of the one at the reptile store (He's been there for a little while now).

Is there anyone on this forum who has black roughneck monitors, or knows anything about them? I'm curious about ideal temperature ranges, how big they get, what things they eat, what size enclosures work best, anything and everything about them.

I've got nothin but time on my hands, since I wouldn't be getting one for at least a year or two yet, but I figure it'll probably end up taking me that long to learn enough and properly set up the enclosure. Any suggestions on other places I can look for info?

Thanks in advance,
~jenny

Black roughnecks have a bird like face.Brown roughnecks(Dumerils)have just a pointed snout and most are really great pets(mine was).Hre's a link.
