unidentified blue frog..

sleepofapples Oct 07, 2006 12:57 AM

i ordered a treefrog from sunpet (for the petstore i work at)last week called "vietnamese green treefrog" .. they cant tell me a scientific name or anything.. it has the same body and head shape as a red eye, but its a pretty blue green color, with lighter parts around the sides and on the legs.. very faint white speckling on its sides towards its belly.. it has horizontal pupils (dont know if that will help).. ive googled for hours looking for a vietnamese frog that is blue but have come up with nothing.. ill try to post a picture as soon as i can.. does anyone have any suggestions based on description or location? common names are just lame..

Try looking up Vietnamese giant or goliath treefrog. The description sounds like that, but I couldn't find a scientific name on them. Read somewhere that they were new and undescribed yet, but that could just be hearsay.

i looked at that one, but i think it is a lot heavier bodied than the one i have.. the closest picture i could find was of polypedates dennysi- the chinese gliding frog.. but agin, its heavier bodied and doesnt have defined spots on its side like the picture.. but its the closest ive come up with so far. i wouldnt put it past Sunpet to put the wrong country of origin so maybe that is it... perhaps the spots become more defined as the frog grows.. the one i have at work is only about 1.5-2" long right now.. im gonna have to go back to work and check to see if his feet are webbed or not..
