Feeding burms pigs...

ryjspahr Oct 07, 2006 08:09 AM

Hi there guys & gals, have a question for you all, do any of you with larger burms ever feed them pigs?

I'm trying to decide if I should feed mine a small pig, I mean is there anything to be said for a diverse diet? We as humans eat all sorts of different things on a daily basis, my girl Isabella gets one meal a month (a 10-12lb f/t rabbit).

She is doing well, the vet says she's VERY healthy (nearly 17ft long, 160 lbs), and I have an endless supply of rabbits, but was just curious.

Also, is there any drawback to feeding her a pig? I mean, I know that chicken often times comes out 'the other side' very messy, do pigs?

Thanks for any insight and GO DAWGS (UW Husky fan here)!
Ryan

I've fed my larger pythons pigs for twenty years- frankly, I'm not sure what other readily available prey exists (that is easy to aquire, at any rate) to feed giant pythons once they outgrow bunnies. As far as fecal matter goes, it does tend to be a bit looser than with bunnies, probably because pigs have less hair/fur to help bind the feces.
I've approached several pig farms over the years, and with a little "good ol' boy" approach, you can generally talk them into a better price than they originally quote you- you may have to settle for birth defects, but unless you live near Chernobyl, that isn't really a concern.

Good luck!

Well after getting tired of trying to find rabbits for mine, she had her fist pig last weekend.Aside from the excessive squeeling it went off without a hitch. So I say why not?If you have a reliable source, and you're ready for the mess LOL.
