hey this is the first time ive really posted in this forum and wanted to ask something. I rescued a leo about two or three months back with a broken tail. Im happy to say he is thriving in his new home. KInd of aggresive when it comes to food though. Anyway in the past few weeks i have noticed a lot of orange on his tail anyone know what breed he could be also. In the past few days hes been diggin out holes and just laying in them Any ideas what this is about.

Hi there and welcome to the Leo Gecko forums, im a newb in here too but I think I could answer some of your questions.

The orange tail isnt enough info to really determine what it is. If I had a picture I can make a good guess, but the reality is, you can't really tell what a leo is unless you know his parents.

Geckos dig for 2 reasons, To lay eggs or to (cool down or heat up.) I think its to cool down since soil can be cool.

I have to go, I will answer more when I come back, good luck. Good Luck and make sure you sex him right, Females tend to dig alot when searching for a place to lay her eggs.

Oh and just to add, I caught female leo diging. I think she heard my mealworms and wasnt sure where they were from, so she starting diging near the rock(bowl) where they were.

So just a guess, they may dig when they search for food.

I can not tell you what morph your gecko is without a pic, but most of the time if there is a lot of orange on the tail we call them whatever morph it is carrot tail. So say you had a very yellow gecko with a very orange tail. It would be a high yellow carrot tail.

Does your leo have spotting on their body, like this:

if yes, then they may be a hi-yellow or a carrot-tail.
or are they completely spot-free, like this:

if yes to this, they are more likely a Super-hypo(spotless on the body, with some spotting on the head/tail) Carrot-tail.
