Put it in the middle tub under the substrate. I have a Vision CB 70 rack with a Helix hooked up to it. The probe is in the 6th tub from the top and bottom and is taped down under the substrate in the back of the tub.

How do you clean your tub if the probe is taped inside? I do not have a Vision rack but I think most people place the probe on top of the heat cable not actually in the tub.

I was told to put it there by both Vision and Helix. I just take it out when I clean the tub and tape it back down, no big deal.

If you are not using all of the channels for the heat rope on one of the middle levels, run the probe in an empty channel with heat rope in the channels on each side. This has worked well for me.
Putting the probe in the tub works well for controlling the heat, but a snake can work the tape loose and drag the probe to the cool side of the cage which causes the heat tape/rope to heat up unchecked.

Hello,

I just bought a helix thermostat. I built my own rack system. But for my setup I just taped the probe on the heat tape; with a small piece of card board between the probe and the heat tape. You will want to use a thermometer on the heat tape side of your tub, because I found that the temperature was a little off from what the helix control said it was, and what it really was. Otherwise the directions on the helix control said you could make a dummy box and simulate the temps in the tubs.

Good Luck,

Steven

One thing also to keep in mind. Wherever you put the probe, make sure it DOESN'T COME LOOSE. If it does, and moves away from the heat tape, you will have a very hot environment for your snakes.

Best of Luck

Thanks for all the help!! I taped the probe under the tubs close to the heat cables, but not touching it.I set the thermostat to 93 deg. I hope this works.!!
Thanks Stevebp
