I am posting to ask a question. I have bred Brazilians a "few" times in the past, I purchased a pair from you in the recent past and have managed to get the female to 2.5 pounds, she seems big enough to breed, since I have bred smaller females in the past, but till I started reading this forum I never weighed them, I know by the time I will try breeding her (Jan/Feb) she will be much heavier, she eats out of my hand now, stubborn little [bleep] at first, but I converted her, by probably a controversial means, which I have mentioned in the past. What in you experienced opinion, is an ideal body weight to start breeding females?

Hey Frank, I too never "weighed" them before so can only go by approximate size. Just looked at an 1100 Gram plus (~2 1/2 lb) 2 year old. She is looking good for this coming season but obviously needs to out on some weight. I've read they should be minimal 3 lbs and better to be 4 lbs. 2 1/2 years old is considered a minimum for a female although I'm thinking of giving a couple of my 1 1/2 year old males a shot this year.

Thanks, I think she looks almost big enough at 2.5 pounds, so another 1/2 pound makes goos sense.

Frank,
...I like females to weigh 3.5 pounds and be around 5.5 feet long before I breed them. If your 2.5 pound female is a little over 5 feet now you can probably get enough length and weight on her to breed late this season. Perhap keep feeding heavily until mid january and then start cooling her and keep feeding if she will eat and she may be ready to breed in mid to late february.
Good luck,
Jeff
