I have a WC adult male Eastern X Red intergrade milk that I caught back in May of this year. He has been a great eater until about a month ago when he stopped and has refused all the tricks. He was really fat but I can tell he has lost some weight recently. My problem is that I don't really have a good way to brumate him at the proper temps unless I buy a fridge. I'm thinking about releasing him at the point of capture but I'm not sure if this is a good idea since he's been in captivity for several months chowing down on fuzzies. I'd like to keep him but if he'd be better off in the wild I'd gladly release him. Whadda ya think?

at this point he is a captive animal and may not survive in the wild. his chances Now are probaly better with you keeping him. if you do release him definetly put him back where you caught him exactly this would increase his chances for survival. brumating him would do him no good in captivity i say try getting him to eat and just keep up the temps. did you have him checked for parasites? it may be the issue. see all animals in the wild have some sort of parasite and when you put them in a cage you allow those parasites to increase because he is in constant contact with himself and any parasites in his fecal matter. in a sense your animal could be reinfecting itself constantly. i say get a vet check and a fecal float and enjoy your snake

well i beleive in most states if not all it is illegal to re-introduce w/c animals after captivity for the chance of a captive zoonosis being introduced into wild pops. imho when that snake was removed from the wild thats it. either pass it on to another herper or euthanize it. releasing could potentially wipeout a wild population in just one season, why take that chance? btw it going off food is its internal clock saying its time to go off food, and you really dont need such cool temps so much as you/they need darkness 50-60s is fine in dark(no heat) keep clean fresh water availible bottom of a closet, garage work great, start up heat gradients light etc in march or so offer small meals at first best of luck,,,,,,,,,thomas davis
