Back up power

TacomaUte Oct 07, 2006 08:40 PM

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows of a good kind of backup power source in case of power outages. I understand that the place I moved to recently had several outages--some legnthy--last winter. I live in an apartment so a noisy gas generator would be out.

Do they make any sort of power supply that you can plug in and charge up while the power is on so that it takes over when the power goes out? I need to keep my seven little pals warm and healthy!

Thanks

Sounds like a battery UPS (uninterrupted power supply)would work.

I would check computer stores and suppliers. I know Fry's electronics sells them, unsure if newegg does.

The other thing is they may not supply the voltage or amperage required. I have never actually researched this from the save the heated reptile aspect. Just for CPU's.

I would check and see what they have available, keeping in mind you may need to build a seperate back up heat system one that works on low volts.

Good Luck

Thanks, I'll look into those.

The battery backups will only provide minutes of power. They're designed to come on when power feed is interrupted and give a generator time to start up and reach peak power level or give someone enough time to save any/all open documents/programs to avoid losing data.

The batteries needed to give only hours, not days, of temp. power would fall through your apartment floor due to its massive weight.
