Where to buy an incubator?

tormato Aug 06, 2003 07:54 AM

I want something a little more sophisticated than a hova bator. Is there a good incubator in the 200-400 dollar range? I'd like to trust a hova-bator, but none of the sites offering them explain how they work-and how you control temperature. Theyre not even meant for snake eggs anyway. There is so many websites on the breeders/dealers/stores section that I dont know where to look. Any information would be treasured.
thanks

You could try Big Apple Herp and just do a search for the darn things....but I didn't find much but hovabators except there. You can buy parts and make your own...which is likely my next step.
I got an incubator.....local feed store. Little giant. Dang thing wants desperately to be 100* since it is designed for chicken eggs. I hated it. One the box it showed a wafer thermostat but the thing had a solid state one that DID NOT go down past a point. But it didn't go to waste....'cause my vet offered me all the guinea fowl eggs I want to hatch to feed or whatever.
If you get one with a wafer (looks like a couple discs next to each other in a C clamp sort of switch) you can set temps anywhere and easily. I did finally find another local feed store with a hovabator and I opened the box to confirm the wafer before I got it. I love the wafer thermostat compared to the other. But I do still not like that there is not a lot of head room and you are limited for height til you rig it or buy a extension for it. But it beat making my own right away.

I purchased an Avey incubator for my future chondro projects and am very pleased with the ease and security it's advanced features provide me. It is currently being used to transport a rare special baby tortoise on it's drive from California to Florida for the IRBE in Daytona. It can be powered by 12v car source while driving... or during local power failures.

http://www.hatchchondro.com/products.htm is the site for Avey incubators
