parentie monitor

Hi all,...This is not my normal hangout, but I have a friend who is interested in the Australian Parentie. Actually, I am too. Anyway, we were wondering if it is cites listed, or protected, or restricted in any way, and if not,...are there any breeders in the U.S. If not, where, and how would a person find a captive bred specimen? I can check back here or you can e-mail him at; montnanc@hotmail.com his name is Monty. Thanks in advance for any help.

As far as I know, all of the Australian wildlife is protected and virtually impossible to get.

If you want to get one, your best bet is to go to Australia. Only special people here get authorization to export their stuff, like zoo's and other conservation projects but its still very difficult.

If you find any captive bred perenties(not here but maybe in another country), expect to pay an arm an a leg. There are thousands of other people that have the same dream to have one, such as you and your friend.

Best of luck to you, and if you find one, let me know!

All monitors are CITES. This means only that any international shipments of moniotors mjst have CITES permits for the trade of that species.

While Australian species of reptile are indeed protected. In the USA we count amongst our breeding colonies MOST species of Aussie herps. I cannot say if this include Perenties.

Nonetheless, is there were some CB perenties in the US they'd likely sell for US$10,000 or more each.

I looked into them once. You can find them very rairly for sale. Someone told me last they seen they were like 23000 for a pair or something like that. And they where babys mind you. I've never seen them for sale myself. I'd love to get them but I live in Indiana so I couldnt do a outside house for them. Anyway good luck findin them and if you do let me know who you got them from.
