UV flouresents,which one?

anafranil Oct 08, 2006 04:13 PM

I am sorry I have to talk about brands but I can't solve my issue otherwise.
I have been told by many on this forum to use reptisun 5.0 rather than anything else.Fine I said, maybe is the best indeed but I'll go with Arcadia or Sera since I have no access to zoo med.I got worried when a person that I admire for his knowledge on chams told me to buy reptisun or buy nothing else, there's no point.
Is it really so difficult for companies to produce the right UV spectrum for their bulbs?I know is a very narrow point of the spectrum but don't they have a UV meter to check their bulbs before sending them out to shops?!!!!!
I've read in a site that deals with UV exclusively that Arcadia passed the test along with some other random brands so I went into to the hussle of looking for one just to feel that I'm on the safe site when I could easily and instantly get a Sera from my local shop
I would really like to hear your opinions
Thanks a lot

I can't tell you which tube is best...but I can tell you that I usually use Reptisun 5.0's. I stick to one kind because I don't have to alter my supplement schedule by doing that and my chameleons seem to do well under those lights. I'm sure that some other lights are just as affective....but I also know that a couple of the ones (can't remember the names now) I didn't like.

You asked..."Is it really so difficult for companies to produce the right UV spectrum for their bulbs?"...I think part of the problem is that people see bulbs that say "full-spectrum" and they don't realize that those bulbs don't usually include the UVB part of the spectrum.

Here are some sites that you might find some answers in...

I am talking about sera's terra UV with the graph of the UV spectrum separately in details and the peaks at the certain uv wavelengths. Is their ANY case that this bulb fails to provide what it claims. This bulb was not tested by the site you mentioned, thats why I have doubts.Should I?

I'm not familiar with this bulb...but here are some sites...
