The Legislation Committee of the Louisiana Gulf Coast Herpetological Society has been asked by the President of the Jefferson Parish SPCA to submit language for the Reptile portion of the revamped animal regulations in Kenner Louisiana. The Executive Director of the LA SPCA has also made the same request for New Orleans. The committee is trying to formulate language that agrees with the new state mandate for the Dept. of Wildlife & Fisheries that requires permits for non-indigenous constrictors over 12 feet and venomous snakes. The LGCHS Legislation Committee is also working with the Louisiana Reptile & Amphibian Task Force of the DWF to formulate those rules. The goal is to have the same regulations for Reptiles on a statewide basis that is acceptable to everyone. We would like to work with other Herp Societies in helping them achieve the same goals. ~Bill Watts~
