NARBC in windy city...

cottonmouth111 Oct 09, 2006 01:24 AM

Anyone else take part? It was pretty cool, spent way too much money. One thing though, am I the only person that thinks some vendors are just plain rude? There are some really cool, nice vendors...but I always seem to find the cocky, under estimate my knowledge, kind of guys. That just makes me furious. When I'm veding, I treat everyone with equal amount of respect, that's how it should be. Some vendors forget that vendors also buy. I might be going overboard on this, I just wanted to see if anyone has ever delt with this subject matter. Thanks, Sam

Sam
I have definitely had some of the same experiences. I would expect vendors in general would willingly grasp an opportunity to share knowledge about their animals.

Someone who knows nothing about the reptiles being shown, has no reason to buy a reptile while in ignorance of it's care needs interesting characterisitics, etc. Even if they did, we should desire they are knowledgable, in the legitimate hope they will be succesful reptile keepers. Both for the sake of the animal and the new owner.

I vend at shows, as well (just did the NARBC in Anaheim), and I admit occasional amazment when someone who just listened to me answer their same question, will ask it again. However, I am sure I irritated more than one person/vendor when I was buying my first animals. To me, this just seems the way knowledge and our enthusiasm for animals are passed on to others.

Just my thoughts
Greg

I didn't have any money either, but I still went and had a great time. There's so much to see, and people to talk to. I came home with some calcium and a hide (and some leos as a pick up, but I didn't buy them at the show) ... had I the money I'm sure I would have brought home a LOT of herps.

For anyone that was there, I was the crazy pregnant woman in the court jester's hat on Saturday.
