Texas Collareds

kellybee Oct 09, 2006 06:45 AM

Hi all,

I have seen a livestock list in the UK that has Texas Collareds on it, does anyone know what they are specifically? I'm assuming C.Collaris Collaris but I'm not sure, you may have noticed that I absolutely adore Modoc, described by Eve as "Texas Colored", though I know they vary in colour, and some are a lot like the regular Easterns. Do you think you could maybe fill me in, I'm not sure I've ever seen another one like him, is he one of a kind, or is this very vivid yellow a fairly common colour for a Texan Collared? If I had them I'd really love the yellow ones, are they fairly common in Texans (are there likely to be yellows mixed in with the stock) or is he a rare individual?

C. collaris , and are every color, all kinds of patterns, so diverse. Thats why I call mine Texas Coloreds.

Modoc is kind of a high yellow, and not many are like that, although theres always some. Just about every Texas collared I have is different.

I really like them , and always have my eyes open for NEAT colors!

They could be commercially-collected specimens from the Permian Basin oil fields of West Texas. I know of at least one guy that was catching them out there a few years back; he said the females were almost pure yellow. I was driving out there today and I think you pretty much have to have a friend in the oil business out there to gain access to what appears to be some good habitat--lots of rocks.
