A little show and tell

John-C Oct 09, 2006 12:43 PM

This is one of two melanistic baja blue rock female
yearlings which were produced by the first black
female I've ever seen or heard of. I produced the
original black female in '03. She was sold to Tom
Greb along with a male as hatchlings. After a year
and a half, I got both back and to my surprise, the
female was a weird dark smokey gray in coloration.
Reminds me of the 'ugly duckling' story.

By the time she reached her third year I finally got
her bred with a nice "normal" blue phase male.
Unfortunately I lost her due to egg retention but not
before she had laid a few eggs of which only three
went full term. Out of those three '05 hatchlings from
the black, I had 1.2 sibling hatchlings. I sold the male
along with an unrelated female from a different clutch
as I was male heavy that year but kept the two darker
females.

I hope to breed the two melanistic females back to
an "uncle in law" so to speak only because he was
from the same clutch as the original black female. He
and the rest of the '03 sibling clutch were all "normal"
and bright blue in coloration except for that first
black female.

Thanks for reading this bit of trivia,
John C

Hi Eve and David,
I've been so busy as I usually am this time of year.
I see the light at the end of the tunnel now so it
should get better ... till next season ... lol.

Yeah, how about that lil black girl. I think I have
two but the other is not quite as dark but close.

BTW, your clown babies are now just over two
years and are they something. The male is an
ebony black with the orange/gold bands as is
one of the females. They should start producing
for me by next season.

Had no luck with the chucks this season as my
females re absorbed late in their terms. I'm going
to have to learn that Greb magic touch. I guess
it's back to the drawing board for me huh?

With any luck next season I should be knee deep
in hispidus, crater range red backs and south mt
carrot tails so don't be putting that hex on me
again .. lol.

Ok, I'll play this guy some Manilo music
(by the way, his name is also Barry) and light some
scented candles and talk this red back into some
teepee creeping with a couple of his Crater Range
girl friends come spring and see if I can't get you
a facsimile. Let's see if this larger attachment comes
through of him.

I saw the pic of Langundo on the collared forum
the other day and I must say he's amazing! It's
hard to believe that just over a year ago he was
pipping his way out of an egg in my incubator.
Must make a mother proud huh Eve?

That is th nicest Chuck I have seen in a while! Barry LOL...sorry. He needs to write some different songs that do more than just make the young girls cry.

John E, you crack me up!
Besides, I didn't name him. Montanucci produced and named him.
I'm actually not much of a Manillo fan only because my x-girlfriend would play his love songs ALL THE TIME! After hours of that I would feel more frustrated and not at all intimate ... lol. You're right though, I need to change their "in the mood" tunes ASAP.

BTW, the Tanzanian red heads are laying. First female failed
pre deposition and the extracted eggs are looking good at
three weeks. The second one is about done and the third still looks like a sack of marbles but should start soon. At this rate, I'll have eggs hatching under the Xmas tree.

after Barry Goldwater. His locality is from the Barry Goldwater Bombing Range in south central AZ. I think he is Barry Jr. III. LOL. Tom

Thanks a lot for that Tom.
I was beginning to worry why
those females re absorbed this
season ... LOL.
