Heat Tape Question

VaranusAqua Oct 09, 2006 07:43 PM

I bought a few containers and heat tape at the Tinley park show but have never used them before. I know how to wire them but for some reason no website seems to want to include how to tape them to the bottom of the cage, what to tape them with, where to apply tape, and which side should be up (Should the two cunductor strips be facing up towards the cage, or down towards the floor.) Help would really be appreciated.

Do I put the wire clips on the same end or on opposite corners?

Short Answer: I always do the same end. You can do oppisite corners and it'll also work.

Longer answer: It doesn't matter as the metal conductors that run the length of the tape (not the resistance heating part) have negligable resistance, and for all practical purposes can be considered to have no resistance. The heat is created by resistance between the hot and neutral wired to the tape... as long as one rail is hot and one rail is neutral, the end that they get the electricity from is insignificant
