I got a 8 week old crested gecko about 2 weeks ago. The other day its cage was improperly shut and it got out. My girlfriend and I tore apart the entire apartment looking for it but no luck. If anyone thinks they have any good ideas for finding it that would be awesome. Thanks.

Thay small a critter can hide just about anywhere. It's best to section off the areas and search each area carefully as you go. Don't just look here and there, do it methodically a "square" at a time. Any crack, hole, crevice, under furniture, in the cushions, anything it might climb to get higher (like in a closet with clothes hanging down, it could even be IN an article of clothing) inside shoes, bookshelves, under a desk, behind a computer (it's warm there), or under a fridge, in a plant, behind the tank (stuck between something and the wall) under a dresser or bed.....anywhere. Remember archiological digs how they use string to section off the area and dig square by square? There you go. Good luck!!!

Yeah. That's basically what I did, but there are some areas like cracks in the walls, etc. that I can't look in and I bet that's where it is. I'm not giving up though. I put food and water out at night and once it's dark and I think he might be out I search around with a flashlight. Thank you so much for your help. I'll keep you posted.

Not my idea, but something I've seen posted here: lay out a large amount of aluminum foil on the floor and set out food/ fruit/ water bowl/ whatever the gecko likes. (If it was mine, I'd move her plant out of the enclosure, she always runs towards the plant.) If you leave food out, especially something that smells good, chances are the gecko will return and when you hear the crinkling of the foil you know you've got it. Good luck!

I really like the aluminum foil idea. I have been putting food out for it already but with the foil I could actually hear it when its there. Unfortunately it's favorite food is crickets and they tend to run away, but I'll try some baby food. I'm also thinking of putting a 20 gal. cage on its side with lots of hanging plants, that way I can provide a humid enviro for it. I think it is attracted to that. Thank you for the ideas. I will keep you posted.

A small gecko like that is a much more difficult proposition, but I lost an adult leachie a year ago or so, and also tore apart the place and couldnt find it. I went to the local pizza place and bought 20 new pizza boxes and put them out everywhere, knowing that she would want to hide in a dark, tight place like that. I put them on the floor, on top of things, and taped some to the wall. I put figs in some, which my leachies are crazy about. It took a few days, but eventually we found her hiding in one of the boxes on the floor. If you found some small boxes, maybe candy boxes like the ones for movie candy, you might have luck with the same thing. Good luck.
