breeding problem

burmmania Oct 10, 2006 01:22 AM

I have an adult pair of burms that I am getting ready to breed this season. I never have bred before, but have read up on it a lot in hopes that evertyhing would go as planned this year. I am afraid that I may have sidetracked my plans though, and im posting to get some experienced responses. Heres what went wrong: a little over two weeks ago - about three now actually - both heat lamps went out in my enclosures for my male and female (yes oddly enough they burned out within about 12 hours of each other). It took me two days until I could get replacements for them, and in the mean time their cage temps dropped 15 degrees in the hot spot (and obviously the ambient temp dropped a good amount). My problem is that since this has happened both snakes are refusing food. This has never happened before, as they are both pigs when it comes to eating (trust me on this one). I have tried everything (rats, rabbits, pigs) and they wont eat. I am wondering if I didnt trigger their breeding cycle from the big temperature drop....? The male is acting normal, but the female is wandering her cage quite a bit lately. They are not in shed I should note too; they shed around the same time a month ago. Anyone know whats going on here? Should I drop temps and get ready for breeding? Or should I stay on track for cool down in a month or two even if they refuse food? Any info is greatly appreciated.

I presonally think that they are showing signs of wanting to breed. I would continue to cool them a little longer then go through thte normal process ahead of schedule. Hope this helps a little. Todd
