Another litter of BRBs

Jeff Clark Oct 10, 2006 01:29 AM

..I almost forgot to post about another litter of BRBs. I was in Florida over the weekend and they were probably born sometime sunday. I got home sunday night and found 11 healthy babies, 1 stillborn and 4 slugs. Mother snake looks like she may have a few more to deliver. I was waiting to see if she delivered more before posting STATS here. All the babies were around the same size as one I weighed at 29 grams. 10 of the 11 ate live fuzzy rats sunday night. The mother is an 11 year old that was born here. This is her 5th or 6th litter.

I'm still waiting and waiting. Yesterday three of my possibles were up and alert looking hungry. I offered food and all three ate. I'm still wondering if they are gravid or not.

Congrats my friend!!

although I have not bred brazilains many times, almost all of my females fed during the time they where gravid, all fed but one, but we are not talking many, just 2 lol, so I do not carry much scientific merit into my experience's, but I await your results to further understand this particular ophidian. I have alot to learn, but I must say I am a lucky man, every time I try to breed a snake I am blessed with success.

Hey Frank, we are all learning as we go. So far, for me, my females typically refuse food while gravid. Thy may take a meal or two while gravid but I've never noticed them "looking hungry". Not exactly a statistically valid number for me either, I have had litters from 7 females so far.

Add to that how VERY late this season is and I wonder if they are gravid at all. Some are nice and plump but none are swollen gravid ready to burst. In prior years 80% of my litters came before October (half in August) and only one litter that was born later than now on 10/15 last year.

Nice one Jeff. I've got all of your stats so far. I haven't had time to count up your babies yet but it looks like you're doing pretty good this year. Keep the numbers coming.
