New Heat bulb on the market...

blueselaphe Oct 10, 2006 02:16 PM

T- Rex has a new line of Heat bulbs out called Safe Heat. I looks like it may be a type of ceramic "bulb" with it's own cover. Has anyone used these? Are they worth the $45 I've seen them advertised for? Would they be good for a 4' long boa enclousure? Thanks, Blue

Yes, I've seen these 'bulbs' and have two of them. They are a heating coil wrapped around a ceramic cone inside of a Par-30 glass reflector. You can get them from www.uvheat.com and www.reptileuv.com for $25. They're actually manufactured by these and a couple other companies under license from Westron, the company that makes T-Rex Active UVHeat bulbs as well as the same bulbs for Reptile UV and Active UVHeat. I've seen them more expensive on some other websites and can't figure why they're almost double the cost. Oh yeah, they're great heaters - just remember to use a thermostat.
