Russian Tortoise possible impaction

tropicalpetcove Oct 10, 2006 02:23 PM

I am trying to get some information for a friend that has a russian tortoise. Her Russian Tortoise 5 years old and recently stopped eating and drinking. She sleeps most of the time and has not had a BM for a while now.
The bedding in the tortoise cage has always been a cypress/sand mixture. She has never put any type of UVB or Basking bulbs on her and also has not offered her any calcuim supplements. Does anyone know if her bowels are impacted if we can do anything to help relieve her? We have since changed her bedding and would like to start over correctly but need to help get this situation under control!
Please help, we are desperate

This turtle needs the attention of a Veterinarian qualified to treat turtles. No person on this forum is qualified to make a determination as to your tort's problem. A Vet. would have to perform an examination. I believe that the "herpindex" link above can help you find a Vet. In the meantime, correct ALL husbandry problems. There's no need to wait on that. There are many books available on tortoise care, and a Russian tort. book in particular.

I wish you luck, and I hope everything works out well.
