Free-roaming chams

loconorc Oct 10, 2006 03:11 PM

Has anyone here read the 2004 Reptiles USA article about free-roaming chams? Theres also a section on chameleonsdish.com about it.

I think thats a really cool idea and would like to try it with a veiled or panther. Has anyone tried this or know someone who has? Thanks!

I've used free-range setups before..
they can work great if your chameleon is larger and doesn't wander too much. They do take a lot of work to initially setup though, water and drainage are the biggest problems.
Once you get everything ironed out, they can be great.
Pretty soon your obsession with chameleons will include
an obsession with large bushy house plants

I've done it too, and really enjoyed it. But, you've got to have the right type of space in the house. If you can't confine the cham to an area that is safe from hazards like other pets, heat, cold, getting trapped behind things, etc. it could be a problem. Check moving sales for big plants. There is an article on free ranging melleri on the chameleonnews.com ezine. It is back a couple of years, but may answer a lot of your questions.

Thanks guys for your responses. I read the chamleonnews article and Ill definatley try it. We are renting a house now but as soon as we buy, a cham will be my first new purchase! Also, have any of you bought a chameleon from kammerlfage kreations? Im looking into buying one from them. Thanks a lot!

Kammerflage is a great company and very cham-wise.
