mali uro feeding questions please help!!

i have a mali uro adult. i keep him in a nice large 6' setup with proper temps. my only promblem is im in a seasonal business so im not there everyday in the winter. i feed him every three- four days from oct- feb is this bad? he has proper temps and dry food but as far as veggies its every three-four days. i would like to hear from some mali owners about this. thanks.

The main worry I have would be dehydration from dry food, it wouldn't hurt to keep a water bowl in there just in case. Another idea would be to see if you can get de-spined cactus pads to keep in there. They would help with both food and water needs. It took some searching but I found a place on the web to get them. If you do you can try to start growing them if you find your Uro likes them. It's entirely possible it wouldn't have a problem in the short term, but in the long run it may take it's toll, especially if it's used to eating greens more frequently.

he really doesnt eat ravensously every day reguarly any how. can you give me that website i would love to try those cactus plants.

From November to March many people have their uros in brumation/hibernation for reproduction purposes. Mine always disappear into their hides around the end of November due to lower temperatures and light and return to "normal" in about March as the temperatures and light increase. They do come out to bask occasionally but mine never eat during that time. I have never lost a mali uro doing this with them...but it needs to be done right or you could lose one. Please read the whole section about it in the site below....its up to you to decide whether to risk it or not.
