MOUTH PROBLEMS!

desertkingsnake Oct 10, 2006 07:30 PM

today i tried to feed my desert king and she wouldn't eat

as i was trying to get her to eat i noticed she was doing something really weird. She would open her mouth up and run her tongue over her left lower lip like she had something on it, except there wasn't anything on it. Inside her mouth it also looks bit blackish on the left side and there is a small ammount of saliva coming out of the front when her mouth is closed. She would also rub the left side of her face against the bedding like she was trying to shed only she isnt in shed right now.

Could this be mouth rot or some other mouth disease?

I've already set up an appointment tomorrow at my local bird and reptile clinic but i want to get as much input as i can before i go in tomorrow

Finally! someone who posts a health question and already has a vet apt.!!!

You will find out more tommorrow. What you describe could be many things from fungus, to infection, to foreign body, or trauma. A pic would help but I wouldnt stress it out to get one at this point. Just see what your vet says. And let us know...

good luck

I took Penelope to the vet today and they think she has an early case of Stomatitis aka mouth rot for those who dont know

they took a bit of blood and said they'd have a definite answer tomorrow

until then though they sent me home with some antibiotic medecine im supposed to give her every 3 days via INJECTION!

i hate shots and was pretty worried about giving one for the first time (to my snake no less). the assistant told he what to do and had me give her the first one right there in the office so she could see if i did anything wrong

I was worried about hurting her but it was way easier and less painful looking than i thought and Penelope just squirmed a bit and didn't seem to mind too much =D

giving shots still sucks but its better than losing Penelope after the 10 years we've had together!

Please do what i did! Think it through, make sure your not just being paranoid, get some advice from these forums, and go to the vet. Why risk losing your pets?

That's funny, I just took one of my Florida X Honduran hybrids to the vet today. The doc gave him a combo shot of antibiotic and B12. I'll be giving him a shot every 24 hours for the next 10 days. His throat was red.

Here's what he looks like when he's healthier.
