Hello,
You mentioned that the deppei deppei were your favorites, what is it that you like best about them?

Hi John
Nice hearing from you.
Well, I reckon that you keep yours in racks. What size racks do you use for them, and at what temperatures do you keep them?
Mine are from July 2002 and eats jumpers without any problems.
Do you prefer to keep the juveniles one on one or together?
How old should they be before they are able to breed?
I'm very interested in the deppei deppei's to... I don't think many people are working with these in Europe (perhaps a future project for me)... What are your current prices for these?
Regards

Deppei deppei and deppei jani are both fairly easy to raise as long as you abide by several rules that we use for all pits but even more so for them, capes and black pines.
1. Don't push or overfeed them.
2. Don't try to breed untill they are at least three years old.
3. Keep temps in a moderate range and on the low side of the normal temps, we keep the youngsters at around 74 - 76 and the adults at around 72 - 78 degrees.
4. Provide plenty of hides for them as they are fairly shy.
5. Reduce stress by all means including handling after a meal.
I love the deppei deppei because of the gentle temperment, variety of colors they come in and because the breeders we have( 23 )were given to me by the person that originally collected them in Mexico who is a good friend ( Randy Limburg ). So they have a special in quite a few ways. Like wise with our bulls the majority of them came from specific friends in the hobby that either collected them are produced them in captivity for the first time. Craig Trunbower for instance on the snows and albinos.
Below is a pic of a partial striped male deppei deppei that we will be breeding this coming year.

The Large adult pits are kept in split 4'or 5' neodesha cages and the smaller adults are kept in sweater box rack systems. As far as exporting, many years ago we did but we haven't for quite a while. At this time we have about 420 adults in the collection, but intend to cut back a few in the spring. It is a lot of work trying to care for this many on a part time basis, after all I have to have a real job to support this habit. LOL
Take Care,
