Boa breeders and show in AZ

az_gunner Oct 10, 2006 09:20 PM

Hi all,

I recently got back into to hobby.
I noticed that are hardly any reptile shows in AZ any more. The ones I've seen were mostly local vendors that we already have access to. We used to get IRBA shows all the time. I hated going to a local show recently, to find very few boa constrictors VS trailer loads of colourbrids. Is there a reason there aren't any more shows, or why boa breeders aren't going to the few shows there are?

What happened?

Na I see plenty of boas when I go to a show but no Morphs! All normals. I didn't even bother to go to the Tucson show this year. I think that its not worth the effort for some big breeders here to even go to these shows, and I wouldn't want to take my animals to them (or the one in tuscon.

I went to the Tucson show. It's the only one within 4hrs drive. San Diego and LA sound great, but I am of humble means. By the time I take the family on a 2 day road trip to SD or LA, there'd be no real $$$ left for the actual show. (overnight trip requires house sitter or boarding dogs)

The Tucson show was a colourbrid bonanza. A single boa breeder would have had the market cornered (for that show). I went in hopes that there would be a "plastic" rack/cage vendor and I saw not a one. I hope things change in AZ.

If not, I hope things change in my finances, so I can afford to take the family to LA/SD. : )

Ya I didn't even go this year. I went last year and it was fun, but it was like walking through a big pet shop. I remember alot of hoggs and normal boas (and 1 hypo and 1 anrey not for sale lol) So ya, not big with boas.

But I loved the pioson arrow frogs.

We should have our booth set up at the local shows for 07, specializing in boa and corn morphs. The boa morph market is difficult here though. Most shoppers who actually have the money to spend, prefer to shop at the larger shows in CA. Which doesn't make it very worthwhile for the bigger guys like Brandon, Rich & John to invest in booths here; when all that the locals are buying are normals and a few hypos.

We've seen a few local "businesses" at the shows here trying to offload $500 "pastels" (which were clearly not pastels), as well as $1200 Kahl strain albinos with very muddy patterns/colors.

Maybe our standards are high,

*shrug*

but here's to hoping that people will be impressed with our offerings.
