What type of lizard for my tank?

jflick345 Oct 11, 2006 05:18 AM

I just inherited a new custom made tank (about 5'x15"x18" and I'm trying to decide what type of lizard to get. It obviously has to be more terrestrial due to the lack of height. I have a 10 or 20gal. to temporarily house a juv. and all that. I'm thinking about maybe a blue tongue skink. I've kept all sorts of the starter reptiles and amphibians so I'm looking to branch out a little and try something a little different....Any suggestions?

As you mentioned a blue tongue would be a fine choice. Since they dont like to climb all that much. They will scurry over cork bark or small logs but certainly do not require high perches. And they do like to wander so they would appreciate the extra floor space. Plus their usually docile temperments and ease of keeping would be ideal for someone who has experience with the beginner species and wanted to branch out into something a bit larger and more exotic.

But just about any small to medium sized terrestrial species would be fine. It depends on your taste really and what you want to keep. With that much space available you have a great many options.
