Does your panther open his mouth when...

hredder Oct 11, 2006 12:24 PM

My juvenile panther occasionaly sits under his basking lamp with his mouth agaped. Are they like alligators and croc when they get hot to open their mouth to cool off faster. He is in a 3x2x2 screened cage with two spot lights of 75 watts in two separate parts of the tank and has plenty of other room with out of the lights. The tank has two plants in it, ones a F. benjaminas and the other one is a Ficus as well but a differnt species, one I dont know the name of. Anybody else ever see their panther do that? Just curious!

Yes, they can sit under the heat lamp with their mouths open. You'd think they would just move away...but they don't always.

try having only one spotlight on the far end of the enclosure. Two seems too much for such a small cage.
