Not a GBK but in GBK country

BillMcgElaphe Oct 11, 2006 01:30 PM

Mid September my wife and I made a trip to FT. Davis, Alpine, and Terlingua.
Maybe you old salts can comment on this.
I'd seen lepidus, GBKs, and Subocs climb cuts, but I was amazed to see an animal with this bulk go up one in Terlingua.

Also, we were there for 4 or 5 days and saw no law enforcement, except for county deputies at breakfast.
I mean:
No Border Patrol - zero (Alpine station remained closed)
No TPW
No THP
No Las Jitas deputy
No National Guard
It was very strange.

several times, earlier this year I walked up on both a large scut and a large atrox within two minutes on a large cut with a lot of vegetation obscuring my view. Both were on the move and moving directly towards me. Good thing I was prepared in both instances.

The largest atrox I've seen on a cut was in Corckett county, easily 5 to 5.5' and very thick.

This past Monday, around noon, this 4' atrox was crawling up a cut in northern Brewster county.

Not 30 seconds after my asked if you ever found "The Big Ones" on the cuts she spotted this guy. Prevously the biggest snake she had spotted was a 28" alterna. Just west of Comstock on the Big cuts.

I've seen a very large adult suboc on a cut and once I let an 8 foot plus bullsnake go after moving it off the road and watched it crawl straight up a verticle cut.
