Hello,

I am looking for information pertaining to lizards that eat rats. I currently just own ball pythons and boas put have always been interested in lizards as well. I travel alot for my job so I cannot feed lizards that need to eat something every single day. I am usually travelin 3-4 days a week. That works fine for my snakes since I can feed them every 5-7 days and feed them rats of various sizes. I breed my own rats so I have a great supply. Are there lizards out there that can live on rats alone. The size of the lizards are very important as well. I only have room for lizards that can live in the racks. I have racks large enough for adult female ball pythons that I would want to keep them in. Anyways, any input would be helpful. Also, if there are any lizards out there that eat something different then rats, put can be feed every 5-7 days instead of everyday, I would be interested in that as well.

Lizards can't eat large prey like snakes can. Lizard can get impacted if a prey item is too large for them. A carnivorous lizard would probably have to be at least 2 feet long to be able to eat just rat pups, and one that size wouldn't be able to live in the racks. (realistically you'd be looking at a smallish monitor, and they like to either burrow or climb, or both.)

I personally wouldn't start out with a venomous animal for my first lizard but... good luck! Are you going to get those Kevlar gloves?
