Please HELP!!!! ASAP!!!

Hi,
I do not know what to do... I have 2 Female RES, about 4-5 years old. I am working on getting a larger tank, but right now I have a 40 gal breeder, water temp is about 75, Fluval filter, turtle ramp and basking lights.

Recently BOTH the turtles stopped eating. They used to go crazy when we shook the food canister or even when we walked into the room, now they are not even interested. One of the RES seems to have white-ish swollen eye lids. They are only responsive when we tap on the glass or nudge them with the net. They also seem to be shedding a bit. What could this be??? Could it be a fungus? Or another illness? Please help me! I will be so devastated if anything happens to them!!

What is the life span of RES in artifcial habitats such as a glass tank?

Thank you for any help in advance...

Have you added any chemicals to their water? Go through and
check their set-up completely. Check water temps and
basking areas.

My turtles go through a brief period a couple times a
year when they aren't interested in food. This doesn't
concern me as much as they are not active and the there
is an eye problem.

I would find a qualified vet now and have them both checked
out. What does their diet consist of? How long have you
had them?

Thanks
Linda

well, the water is dirty and/or there is a vit.A deficiency going on.

For the eyes...if it's a vitamin deficiency, get fish liver oil capsules, poke a hole with a needle on an end and squeeze out the goop inot their eyes. my boy Raph had a eye infection, I did that, he's been fine since.

tank needs to be HUGE...filter needs ot be replaced with a canister filter like a Filstar XP3, cause if thats one of them little fluval internal (submersible) filters...it ain't cuttin it..waters icky, they get sick

the probally have a respitory infection, symptoms include milky skin, unclear nostrils, cloudy eyes, lethargic, loss of appitite. pretty much all the same symptoms as humans, my turt. has had this, i increased the water temp to 82 and it went away. very important- don't increase the water temp. rapidly, over a few days, if you don't it can do more harm than good.
