MissHisssss Oct 12, 2006 02:44 AM

worms, milworms, insects, etc? Just curious. Who out there breeds Glossy's? Are they producing albino's yet?

Glossy snakes primarily eat lizards and small rodents. There are very few people breeding them. I saw an albino that someone was working with several years ago, but I've never seen any baby albino glossys for sale.

Here's a glossy I caught in the Las Vegas area.

They will never eat crickets. Just mice and lizards. You'll probably have better luck with mice.

Tim, that's a nice Glossy. Do you have any idea what Arizona elegans ssp it is? It looks like the male I caught out in Lancaster, CA which is in the range of A.e. candida (the Mojave Glossy). I'm looking for a female for him.

Thanks for the response. I've had this guy for four years now. When I first got him he ate pinks but as soon as I tried feeding him a fuzzy he quit on mice no matter how I presented it. Pink or fuzzy. Months went by with no success. I even offered a beer with one, but still nothing (only kidding). So he's been eating nothing but lizards ever since. It's a pain, but if that's all he'll eat, I'll do it. I've seen several at the pet shops over the years that were skin and bone, probably because they refused mice. I won't let mine get in that condition just because it's a pain to get lizards. Someone suggested trying a cricket so I thought I'd ask. Bye the way... is there a place that sells lizards in bulk like with mice? If yes, who?

I'd heard that someone was working with albino's I just didn't know who.

I believe LLL Reptiles has bulk feeder Anoles. Have you tried scenting the mouse with a lizard?

Will they eat Anoles? I know that mine didn't take anything but side blotched lizards there for awhile, then started including whiptails later.

viborero Oct 14, 2006 10:36 AM

Honestly, I'm not sure if they will. They are the only bulk feeder lizards I've ever seen advertised, though.

Yeah, I heard the same thing about somebody who'd bread Glossies and produced an albino morph. My friend sent me a pic of it. What locale is your Glossy from? What ssp?

Yes, I've tried scenting a mouse with a lizard. No go.

I got it in El Paso Texas, so I guess it was from Texas, probably Hudsbeth county where a lot of snakes are collected for the pet trade. He sure is a neat snake. I've even taken him the repitle meetings we used to have around here.

Was that the name of someone with albino's?

I caught it near Las Vegas, which would make it a Desert Glossy.
Here's another that I caught on the same night, on the same road, while roadhunting.
