Okay, so I was going to house 2 girls in a 20g with 1 male, but then I got to thinking. Why not get 3 girls, and a seperate cage for the male..cause that's more eggs. So I was wondering, what's the smallest but most comfortable size you can put one male leo in? If 3 can go in a 20, I was thinking something like a 10? Hit me back.

A ten is ok for a single gecko. 3 girls in a twenty long? Sounds fine too. might get a little crowded when breeding season comes, though i'm not positive on that.

I house 3 females in a 20 long. They fit comfortably. When breeding season comes, just pick the female you want and drop it in with the stud. My other leos that aren't racked, are in 10 gals by themselves.

Especially for a first time breeder. What are you going to do with 30 babies that nobody wants? Just because you breed them does not mean you can/will sell them.

I would just breed one of the girls until you know that you can care for all the babies and find them homes. You may be seeing dollar signs but I can promise you that unless you are producing expensive morphs and/or have a fast outlet to sell babies you will spend alot more in food and caging than you will make back.

Local petshops usually will buy your leos. Where I live, theres a petshop that buys adult and baby leos off you. You can bargain, usually morphs you will get more money for.

I have 1 male and 1 female in a 10 gallon Tank, im planing to get a big one, but before I even got her, he was alone in that 10 gallon tank. According to a local Reptile Petshop(I dont know how to spell vavarium, lol Im guessing that how you spell it. They said a 10 gallon tank is good for 1 Leo. 2 is pushing it, im pushing it but plan to get a bigger tank very soon with some more females.

I'd house all your males seperately. Very stressing to the females.

DarkBlades Oct 12, 2006 07:52 PM

really? Why stressing to the females? The female doesnt seemed stress, she does what she wants, eats when she wants, she even sleeps in the same den as him without any problem. Well not in my sight... I havent seen any bite marks on her or him.

They are the same age, but the female is bigger. So If I were him, I wouldnt mess with her anyways, lol.

But yes, please inform why females should be seperated. Im not saying I will do that but I will be having 2 tanks, the 1 tank could be for my male while the bigger tank for the females.

Although I was planing to use my 10 gal as a incubator...

If you want to breed, males and females both need resting periods. I put a female in with a male for 2-5 days. This gives them enough time to mate yet the female will not get stressed. Males are dominant and can force a female not to eat. They can also keep trying to mate with them forcing both to lose strength and become tired. I have personally witnessed a couple males...after they mate will be very agressive to the females. Hope that helps...Sam

Thanks for the info. I will keep that in mind for the future. Just for the Record, my couple are living fine together. Maybe hes not trying to be dominant because shes bigger?
