Head and face issues

cfoley Oct 12, 2006 04:45 PM

I posted this in the retic forum, but it is not a species specific issue, and more people visit here, so maybe you guys can help.

I have a male tiger retic 100% het albino, approx 11ft long. Recently he has developed what seems to be an "overbite." My best guess (along with input from the retic forum) is that it is nose rub, and will heal on its own.

My other issue is a lump behind his left nostril. Awhile ago he had a bad shed, and it seemed to have, more or less, closed that nostril. When I saw the lump, and discovered this, I cleared the remaining shed and it was opened. This lump is still there. It is soft and plyable...almost like an abscess.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

the inflamation could be due to a bacterial infection. You should take it to a vet, have the vet perscribe cipro (comes as eye drops) , clean the inflamed area with a 5 % nolvason solution (or hot water) and drip it heavily on a qtip, and rub it gently over the inflamed gums.

that looks pretty nasty...

nose rub will usually heal on its own... but only if he stops rubbing. Do you see the snake rubbing? If you do then you need to correct the behavioral issue before the medical one.

Can you open his mouth? Are you sure it not mouth rot? I feel like there is something else going on there for the simple reseaon that there is extreme swelling of the nose and gingiva but no skin abrasions.
