Question about quarentine setup....

pspguy Aug 06, 2003 12:18 PM

I have 2 reptile ranches that I got with a 100w infrared bulb for heating.. Each one has a hide and water dish. I was told today by a lady that Abbie (the one I have been feeding by hand) will not recover without the aid of flourscent UVB lighting. Is there any truth to this? Should I bother setting up a different type of quarentine.

She does not need the UVB bulb. However geckos do need under-tank heat (belly heat). Lack of undertank heat can cause digestive problems and lack of appetite. What you can do is get a human heating bad, put it on a towel or grate for air flow (do not place directly on flat unventilated surface as can overheat), and put the reptile ranch on that. Use the manual control on the heating bad and a thermometer in-tank to selct proper heat setting.

I should have said put 1/2 the reptile ranch on the pad (warm side)

What does a reptile ranch look like? Glass tank, plastic?
