too much uv?

anafranil Oct 13, 2006 02:27 PM

It's been time now that my adult ig spends a lot of time under the powersun 160w.He spends about 90% of his time under it though there's plenty of space to retrieve if he wishes to.I must say it's a room sized enclosure. The bulb is suspended 2,5 feet above him.He sits there whatever cage temps are.Even 90 .Is there a case of too much uv radiation?
Thanks

Yes there is, particularly to the eyes.
Are the UVs on a timer?
Is there only one basking spot, on which there is also the only UV source?

A good way to stimulate thermo-regulation is to have more than one basking spot, and to have such basking spots on a timer, particularly on near or full roon-sixed enclosures.

Think about it. Is the sun always in one spot? No.
So you can have basking/UV lamps alternating every 3 hours or so, and of course, all off at night.

Also, forgot where I read it, but if the iguana spends that much time under the UV, increase the distance a bit.
