Carpet cross with large mass...

trendkill Oct 13, 2006 04:09 PM

Hello, I have a 6 year old male diamond x jungle carpet cross who has developed a large mass on the underside of his tail, just past the anal vent (where his hemipenis is). It's not quite solid and almost oval shaped, about the size and shape of a large peanut shell. He wasn't handled for about a month and a half before I noticed the mass.

I'll be taking him to a reptile vet next week, but I was hoping someone might know what this could be. Sorry, I don't have any pictures.

He's otherwise healthy. He's eating every 12 days and has a good temperment. The mass doesn't seem to be painful as he'll let me touch it without wiggling around.

Thanks for any info you can give...

I have never heard of anything like that... Please post about what your vet tells you.

Well, earlier this year, the same thing happened to my Western Hoggie and it was an abcess. The vet had to surgically remove it and she is fine now-he said it could have been anything that caused it, but most likely a small bone or something punctured the inside and caused an infection. It was in about the same place too. He told me that had it been anywhere else, he might not have worried about it because it wouldn't grow or obstruct anything, but being so close to the vent, he had to remove it. Definitely keep us up to date as to what the diagnosis is.
