Thinking of using pellets? Read here...

GoldDragon Aug 06, 2003 12:22 PM

Just wanted to let everyone know that I have had good luck with the Rep-Cal pellets. I was using the “Adult”” ones, but it was too hard for my adult dragons to pick up when they are wet. I switched to the “Juvenile” ones and they do not have that problem now. They just stick out their tongue and suck them up as fast as they can.

I just got a few 5 pound bags from reptiledirect.com and here is a link right to the item:

WAY cheaper to buy in bulk…

Good luck and I hope this help…

Here is a link right to Rep-Cal about converting your dragon to pellets:

Enjoy...

Thats what I use also.... it is the ONLY pellet my dragons will even consider eating. I also only buy the juvi size. I buy mine in 5 pound bags (3 bags at a time) and from the same place you did

$26.90 for 10 pounds
$10.23 for shipping
$37.13 total

That means that it is only $3.71 a pound, after shipping. Last time I was in a major pet store chain around here, it would cost me close to $16 a pound! Shipping might be a little more, but well worth it...IMO

where i buy its approximatly 4 dollars a pound, so its comparable

I like the site and prices are decent, but yes the do get you on shipping charges for anything you order from there. I don't know how the heck they calculate shipping on one dish to be like $8 when you can send it via priority mail for less than 1/2 that LOL

Then again, people like me who have NO good stores around here have to buy online and pay those shipping rates.... it still works out cheaper in the long run!

The shipping cost reminds me of my banks ATM. They “double dip” from me if I use any ATM that is not of my banks own. The best way to order, is to order everything at once so shipping will not ding you as much per item. But, buying on-line, even with shipping charges, is still cheaper then going down to the local store.

hey thinking of "converting" just wondering approximately how long a 5 lb. bag lasts?

thanks

GoldDragon Aug 06, 2003 01:22 PM

I guess it depends on your dragon/dragons. I find that I use about 5-6 tablespoons a day (divided into two feedings) for my two females. My male is still a little leery of them, but is coming around. It would also depend on if you offset the pellets with anything else. I just started on the BIG bags, but I am sure others will pipe in…

BeginnersBasics Aug 06, 2003 01:26 PM

I couldn't possibly answer this since I feed it to ALL of my dragons from babies to adults. I mix it in with their salad about 50/50 on volume. Usually the moisture from the salad greens is enough to soften the pellets for the adults and during the day when I mist the babies, a bit always lands on the food dish and it softens them up some more for the babies. Then at night I usually pour a little into the dishes so I don't have to feed in the morning before my first cup of coffee hahahaha Don't even speak to me before I have had my coffee!!
I will tell you this....... it does last a long time!

Here is one of my females "Flipper". She got that name because on her front right foot, her middle toe is bent up. So, it looks like she is flipping you off...lol...
