size difference?

ssshane Oct 13, 2006 06:07 PM

Hi, I have a question. Is there a considerable size difference between males and females? I have a early 06 Fla Blue, not sure of the sex. Today, I got one of its siblings. Mine is at least 5 inches longer, and 4 times the girth. I don't know the sex of it either. I just ordered a probe set, never probed a garter before. But have probed my kingsnakes. Thanks everyone for the help. I know on my eastern kings, I can count subcaudal scales to determine the sex, is that possible with garters? I guess I had 2 questions.

Females are bigger and thicker under the same conditions. Females can be easily identified with out probes with a little practice. Males have a thicker base of their tail and their tail is longer and tapers more slowly. Females have tails that taper more quickly and are shorter.

So it sounds the same as with my eastern kings. I just never had 2 to compare. Thanks, I will see if I can see a difference. Worst case scenario, I will have 2 the same sex. But should know what sex that is. Thanks
